Fall/winter has just begun. Therefore, let me begin this article by singing a revised line from the famous Gershwin song ‘Summertime’. I sing,
‘Wintertime and the living is not easy, the leaves fall, trunks & trees are waving & the snow is high’,
In the western world, we cannot avoid Winter and therefore our skin can’t avoid getting dry at this time of the year.
In cold season, we are not physically active as often as we are in summer. We don’t walk for long miles because we prefer the warmness of our heater and we try to avoid the misty, foggy & frosty cold temperature outside as much as possible.
Yes, there are always exceptions to the rule, so to speak.
Although it is cold outside, you should go out, just wear light quilted jacket to savour the fresh ‘air’ outside for it helps to beautify your skin & the longer you walk, the more you feel warm. This is the easy way to sweat out with less effort.
So, how is it related to our skin?
First, let me remind you that the skin is our largest breathing organ.
If we move a lot by being active in sports, we sweat out toxins & excess salt from our body creating a natural skin cleanser. So, by being active in sports, we create a natural way of keeping our large organ in shape. Our sweat will also help to keep our skin hydrated so that it stays soft and radiant. However, participating in sports alone, is not enough. There are several ways for you to put in the extra mile and I would like to share these tips & tricks based on my research & personal experience.
- Do Zumba, Yoga or any Cardio to sweat out excess salt from the foods we eat. Being physically active simply helps to sweat out toxins from our body. Toxins could be from the foods we eat or from emotional or mental stress from work.
- Take a warm bath or warm shower but no longer than 20 minutes because more than that will make your skin dry). Warm bath helps to hydrate & moisturize our skin naturally.! Make sure to put lotion on your skin after taking a warm bath.
- Eat fresh salad, fruits & vegetables, fish & egg 3x a week, these are skin friendly. The best time to eat fruits is in the morning because this is the best time for the body to absorb sugar so you won’t get fat or get a sugar spike.
